Allow users to join a waitlist for edit mode when it is currently held by someone else. Instead of repeatedly clicking "Request edit mode" and being turned away, you reserve your spot in line and are automatically notified when it's your turn.
In workspaces with active teams, two or more editors frequently want to make changes at the same time. The first-come-first-served lock is fair, but the experience of waiting — not knowing if you should keep trying or if someone else has already queued — is frustrating. A visible queue makes the wait transparent and predictable.
When edit mode is occupied, a "Join queue" button appears. Clicking it adds you to the waitlist. A small queue indicator shows how many people are waiting and your position. When the current editor releases the lock, the next person in the queue is notified and given a short window (e.g., 30 seconds) to accept edit mode before the spot passes to the next person.
